Located in Newcastle City Centre, Heber Street will provide 411 student bedrooms, complimenting the adjacent Science Central development masterplan by providing a high-quality student residence and considerable public realm.

Revitalising a derelict site, the single building is visually broken into three distinct volumes, reaching 9, 11 and 13 storeys above ground. These stepping blocks are emphasised through the choice of materiality, tone and texture. A unifying planar grid is conveyed using contrasting terracotta textures in which a smooth grid is distinct against the visually recessed texture tile profile. The elevations showcase a blend of a terracotta rainscreen façade system, dark grey and bronze anodised aluminium vent panels and sleek PPC framed window units.

Inside, the residents can enjoy 462 sqm of amenities. It is envisaged that these areas will provide wellness and social facilities, such as a gym, games rooms and lounge spaces, as well as meeting and workspaces for residents’ use. Residents also benefit from a dedicated 24-hour concierge service and reception foyer on the ground floor.

The development will also provide substantial pedestrian focused external courtyard spaces on the upper and lower terraces for day-to-day use by residents and visitors. The public realm has been designed to include a rich tapestry of native and biodiverse planting to support local wildlife and enhance the space visually. These areas are intended to be multifunctional spaces for students to meet, socialise, and relax in a secure courtyard garden setting.
