Construction on the 31-storey student residential scheme, carried out by Downing Construction, began in June 2018. We are thrilled to see it reach completion this month, despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, and are proud to be delivering such fantastic accommodation to the students of Manchester.

River Street opened its doors to its first residents in mid-September 2020, providing students with state-of-the-art common room, 'dine-in area' and cook station, cinema room and gym. River Street Tower offers unrivalled accommodation to those looking for the next generation of student living in the city.

The development has successfully regenerated a dilapidated brownfield site into 792 luxury apartments, ranging from self-contained studio apartments to en-suite rooms in shared flats and a selection of 2- and 3-bedroom apartments with shared amenities.

Ideally located within the First Street area of Manchester, River Street Tower is just 5 minutes' walk from Manchester Metropolitan University, BPP and INTO, and just 15 minutes from The University of Manchester. The site also has great transport links, with both Deansgate-Castlefield Metrolink, and Deansgate and Oxford Road Train stations all within a 10-minute walking distance.

The project in terms of scale, massing, treatment and finish embodies a very contemporary, high quality building that enhances the cityscape. Cor-Ten, a steel alloy which forms a rust-like appearance over 18-36 months, was selected for the project due to its striking appearance, and in response to the copper shades found in the built environment surrounding River Street.

Sally O'Brien, joint Chief Executive at Downing Students, said: "River Street Tower offers a vibrant student community in a lively location. Socialising and making new friends is an essential part of university life, and River Street Tower was designed to offer an amazing mix of spaces for students to thrive."
